A note from usEast Austin · 2026

It began with presence, showing up, observing, and recognizing something quietly beautiful taking place.

Structured around three interwoven components—documentary, exhibition, and activation—the project seeks to both preserve a moment while inviting the greater community into the movement.

The documentary photo series will spotlight the movement and its impact on the community through visual storytelling. Gallery exhibitions at Bolm Arts and partner spaces across the East side will explore the relationship between sport, culture, and shared identity through the work of local artists. Finally, a community street soccer tournament and vendor market will bridge documentation to lived experience, inviting the public to engage with and participate in the movement.

Set to take place during the famous East Austin Studio Tour, these activations will create a living archive of East Austin’s street soccer movement and Barrio Fútbol Club while expanding access to its story beyond the pitch and inviting the community to participate in the movement.
